The ScanGaugeII is a 3-in-1 automotive computer that combines a multifunction trip computer, diagnostic scan tool, and up to 37 digital gauges in one small package. It connects easily to your vehicle's On-Board Diagnostic (OBDII) port and communicates directly with the vehicle's computer. Not sure if your car uses OBDII or Controller Area Network (CAN)? The unit will automatically determine which system to use and switch to it. The ScanGaugeII works on all 1996 or newer OBDII cars, including gas, diesel, propane and hybrid vehicles, as well as vehicles with the latest CAN systems. The ScanGaugeII has been redesigned with expandable Add-A-Gauge (aka XGauge) technology. Add to the original 12 gauges by customizing the ScanGaugeII to monitor up to 25 more--depending on your specific vehicle's sensor design. Four gauges can be displayed simultaneously and can help determine fuel consumption rates, allowing you to adjust driving behavior and save gas. At the same time, keep an eye on coolant temperature, engine speed, and much more in real time. If there is a young driver in the house or friends borrow your car, the ScanGaugeII can record speeds of up to 158 mph and store the information for you to view later, so you will know just how fast your young driver or friend was going last night. The ScanGaugeII includes a diagnostic scan tool that can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), clear the codes, and turn off the "Check Engine" light on 99% of 1996 and newer vehicles. (However, this feature may not work on some trouble codes in Dodge vehicles.) If any DTCs are found, the ScanGauge will show how many there are as well as the codes themselves. Then you can use the Internet or repair manual to find out which is the failed part is, so you can repair it yourself or know what needs to be fixed at the mechanic's shop. Four sets of data are automatically recorded on the trip computer: Current, Today, Previous Day, and Tank Trip. The "current" trip restarts after the engine has been off for more than 3 minutes. The "today" trip restarts after the vehicle has not moved for 9 hours, and the data from "today" is moved to "previous day" when you restart the car, so you don't have to reset the computer every time you begin a trip. "Tank trip" resets when you fill up the tank. It can provide you with "to empty" data and other useful information, which can be viewed any time during the trip. The trip computer also integrates information from the Cost Per Mile gauge. Simply enter how much you paid per gallon or liter of fuel, and the ScanGauge will automatically calculate the cost of your trips as you drive. I received the ScanGauge and tried it out right away. I have a 2000, Chevy Tahoe. It worked fine but it reset the radio to 1:00 every 2 to 3 minutes. I called the support line and they explained that for 2000 Chevy was using 2 pins that it should not have been using so they sent me a new cable and it works great and the radio works now also.
One of the main things I wanted it for was the transmission temp because I tow and that works great also.

The scan gauge II is everything that was promised and works great. The price was reasonable as well. The instructions were well written and easy to follow which is unusual in this day and age. I had no problem using the unit and would recommend it to anyone interested. I am very pleased with my purchase and rate it 5 stars.

I purchased the ScanGauge II for my Mazda Miata because I missed certain gage functions from other cars. I programed the intake temperature as a proxy for outside temperature; voltage; instantaneous MPG and I haven't yet programmed average MPG. The programing for average MPG is explained, but the manual leaves a lot to be desired. Everything is explained, but the manual could be better organized. If the manual were better I'd rate the ScanGauge II a 5 star. Installation is very easy as all that is required is to find the OBDII connector and plug it in. There are two calibrations, for engine size and tank capacity and a calibration after your first fillup. Simple once you struggle through that manual. Once everything is in place the ScanGaugeII works as promised. Setting the display background color was very easy and its a good match for the Miata's red illumination. Again, a better organized manual and this would have been five stars.

I am very pleased with the comprehensive amount of information available. I recently bought a small motor home and was somewhat concerned with the mileage I would get, considering the cost of fuel now. When I first got the camper about 2 1/2 months ago I was getting between 11 and 11.5 MPG. After installing the ScanGauge II, I became more aware of my excess speed and lead foot takeoffs and am now averaging 14 to 15 miles MPG, just by staying within speed limits (55 MPH mostly) and more reasonable takeoffs. I've only had the Gauge for a short time, but so far it has been very reliable and easy to set up.

Before the scan gauge I was able to get one tank at 35 mpg by changing my driving habits but then it started going back down to high 20's even though I thought I was still driving better. I didn't know why the variation so I bought the scan gauge. Now I can instantly see how my driving affects my mpg and know what works and what doesn't. I just filled up after my first full tank with the SGII and I got 41.8 mpg for the tank. Normally my fuel light will come on around 420 miles, this time I didn't fill up until 520 and the light still had not come on. I actually had 2 gallons left. The SGII will work great to help you achieve better fuel economy but you have to change your driving behavior. It is extremely easy to set up, I am a woman with no automotive skills/knowledge, and I had no problem. I even added a trip gauge to the display using the Xgauge feature so I can see the avg fe for the trip along with the current fe. This will pay for itself quickly at current gas prices. I highly recommend it.
