Virtual reality gaming system tests for telepathy
Scientists at The University of Manchester have created a virtual computer world designed to test telepathic ability.
The system, which immerses an individual in what looks like a life-size computer game, has been created as part of a joint project between The University's School of Computer Science and School of Psychological Sciences.
Approximately 100 participants will take part in the experiment which aims to test whether telepathy exists between individuals using the system. The project will also look at how telepathic abilities may vary depending on the relationships which exist between participants.
The test is carried out using two volunteers who could be friends, work colleagues or family. They are placed in separate rooms on different floors of the same building to eliminate any possibility of communication.
Participants enter the virtual environment by donning a head-mounted 3D display and an electronic glove which they use to navigate their way through the computer generated world.
Once inside participants view a random selection of computer-generated objects. These include a telephone, a football and an umbrella. The person in the first room sees one object at a time, which they are asked to concentrate on and interact with.
The person in the other room is simultaneously presented with the same object plus three decoy objects. They are then asked to select the object they believe the other participant is trying to transmit to them.
The system was designed by Dr Craig Murray of the School of Psychological Sciences, and implemented by Toby Howard and Dr Fabrice Caillette, from the School of Computer Science.
Dr Toby Howard said: "This system has been designed to overcome the many pitfalls evident in previous studies which could easily be manipulated by participants to produce an effect which looks like telepathy but is not.
"By creating a virtual environment we are creating a completely objective environment which makes it impossible for participants to leave signals or even unconscious clues as to which object they have chosen."
The system has been designed to make the task as realistic as possible. In addition to selecting objects and hearing the sounds they make, participants are able to hold and move them within the virtual environment.
Project researcher David Wilde, of the School of Psychological Sciences, said: "By using this technology we aim to provide the most objective study of telepathy to date. Our aim is not to prove or disprove its existence but to create an experimental method which stands up to scientific scrutiny."
The results of the experiment are expected to be published early in 2007.

Telepathic research is a complete waste of time. Why in the world do people think it's even possible to communicate with our minds. Sure, we can predict what close friends are going to do/say, but does that prove anything? NO! There is a God out there who made us the way we are, and created english. You should be thanking Him, not searching for a way to go around what He has given you. He gave you a voice for a reason. Use it! I am.

Erwin Schrödinger, a Nobel Prize in physics in 1935 wrotes about quantum entanglement:
"When two systems ... enter into temporary physical interaction due to known forces between them … they can no longer be described in the same manner as before … by the interaction the two representatives (or wave functions) have become entangled" ( What is Life p. 18).
It’s possible to link together two quantum particles – photons of light or phonons of sound and also atoms or DNA's genes , in an entanglig way , that makes them over the same space-time matrix . Therefore Entanglement generates a no-local dense coding state that would be useful to undestand “entanglement -communication†(or telepathy) through the recent research quantum communication and teleportation. Therefore telepathic communication between two separated particles, which is one of the fundamental concepts of entanglement in quantum bio-physics .
Therefore in this line of reasoning it is possible to understand DNA's telepathy (4)
More in general “telepathyâ€, and “empathy†, respectively are derived from the Greek “tele = distant", and “en = interior†, and “patheia = feeling or phatos†, and are the claimed innate ability of brains to communicate information and emotions from one individual to another in simultaneity, e.g. without the use of extra tools so that without consuming energy.
Recent studies on mirror neurons discovered by Giacomo Rizzolatti of the University of Parma (It) , which confirm the hypothesis that empathy is born is part to an activity of coupling between genes .

Abstract
It’s possible to link together two quantum particles – photons of light or phonons of sound and also atoms or DNA's folding , in an entanglig way that makes them placed sectors over the same location -matrix , which carry out a new state of space-time belonging to the same Q.State.
Therefore Quantum Entanglement generates dense coding that would be the theory launcing the new field of quantum bits communication.
In classical coding, a single photon will convey only one of two messages, or one bit of information. In dense coding, a single photon can convey one of four messages, or two Q.bits of information. Well there are alternatives to Secondlife. You can try I-Citizen. It’s new and fresh what’s more it’s the world’s first 3D world on mobile handsets. I know Secondlife and google are working hard to also release one for mobiles but Micazook with i-Citizen got there first. If all the telepathics are schizophrenic and it is genetic then we can expect a lower than average birth rate due to the libido-dulling effects of the drug therapies. Of course, considering that psychotic disorders and depression have at their heart metabolic/organic hyper or under-fuelling of the dopamine and serotonin neurotransmitters caused by too much friggin cheese, pepsi max, drugs or something like that then you can expect the 'disease' or 'special powers' or whatever to be adequately controlled by correct diet and lifestyle. This is one of the most interesting threads of conversation I've ever read on the internet.
As far as Jack Webber web site that was mentioned is concerned, I've taken a look at the levitated table photo and honestly, it looks riggged...the chair leg is making an imprint in the cushion in between his legs and there are reinforcing wires on the right ends if you look close. That's what I see visually and its not what I want to see. I do believe some people may indeed carry more perception than others. But regardless, I would still like to read the book and find out more on the subject.
I'm always amazed at the concept of the power of the mind over matter, which is why I decided to research telepathy this evening. If one believes something does it really matter whether it is true or not for the rest of us? I fell in love with a man. Can you love him the way I love him? Probably not. I see what I see in that man and I overlook other things that others might find as blaring faults. It is always the filter we are looking through that we must take into consideration; our emotions, our reasoning and our habits.
If one believes they are telepathic and others accept it as truth, does it matter that someone else does not believe it? Does that make it any less true in reality even? That's the real question I have--how powerful is belief really?
Many people in this world believe in God, does it matter whether its real or not? People make things real...that's what I believe. We are our own creators and destroyers and we are scared to the death about it. That's why we war and that's why we fight progress--we're afraid of our potential as human beings.
So although I may not agree with everything a soundthinker or clairvoyant might state, I would rather research potential than discount it on practicality. What is practical today will indeed not be pratical tomorrow, one only need look at a turn of the twentieth century Sears Roebuck Co. catalogue and have that proven rather quickly. I think an attitude of flexibility is well in order and it is worth the money and time to discover not our limitations but perhaps our possibilities.
And I applaud anyone who believes there are possibilities for humanity, that means there is faith, and may Earth help you if we all lose that completely. Humanity needs all the help it can get.
And do I believe in telepathy? Not at the moment, but I don't know about tomorrow, maybe I will.

There is only one help for you. Trust in it and believe in it. If you get skeptic about it you will loose it, that is why most of people do not have it in first place, because right in their childhood - these ideas and capabilities were trashed either by parents or teachers hence their mind never made an effort in their direction. The only other thing I believe in is that try to spend more time with people with whom you are able to link with, your brain becomes more receptive to their "radiations".
I think to write more about it out on this board would be inviting controversy, just link to me on my blog and maybe we can discuss more.

I think the response - "telepathy response" is pointing in right direction. However the idea that it may not be for masses is not really true, heart bypass sugery is available to most of the people even in developing (very fast) countries like India (compared to other parts of world it is quite cheap; google - health tourism in india or open heart surgery in india). Mobile too was a costly affair once but today even street vendors carry it, so i think once (if ever) telepathy is out there as technique people can learn, practice and technology may come to aid of it.
As to weather it is in right direction, research by its nature is revealing the hidden. 95% of people believe that they fall in top 5% of intelligent people in the earth, and they simply cry foul over anything that does not appeal to them. Add to that the concept of "science" imbibed into out minds right from childhood that says that anything that cannot be experimented and proved in a laboratory is non-scientific hence stupidity. The community is yet to realize that there are things that exist but just not proved in a laboratory or that a reasonable explanation has not been found for them. I believe the concepts of telepathy, life after existence and the quintessential GOD, just fall in same realm.
As the world progress we will have to get out of our conventional beliefs and start accepting a few things in a more scientific manner. If we are to truly make intergalactic travel then we cannot make them within the constraints of our current scientific ideas. How will you communicate to your friend in another galaxy at a distance of 10 light year, using current techologies implies that it will be after 10 years of your speaking that he will hear the "hello" from you (btw the Andromeda Galaxy located at a distance of 2 million light years away is the nearest major galaxy ), once one starts thinking in that direction the limitations of so called scientific methods will start showing their weakness and one needs to adopt "out of box" thinking, it may appear ridiculous at first but then that is the need; given the history of mankind, we have always made radical discoveries with ideas that had been tagged "ridiculous" at first.
I come from India and as such I am quite used to hearing a lot of these kind of things, but at same time I am a qualified computer engineer and someone who has a lot of interest in physics and science in general. I see the world turning East as the development is coming. In early 1960's and 1970's the world used to laugh at idea of Neem and Haldi as home medicines, today US companies are fighting over patents for the same thing. Yoga and Meditation were ridiculed, today again Us health companies are fighting to get patents over them. Similarly idea of acupuncture and ayurveda are gaining strong hold. Its not they are anything mysterious or odd, its only that the science as defined by western world has been late to reach out and understand them. Although this may seem Indian bias but let me tell you that there are more people in India who ridicule and laugh at idea of telepathy or meditation then in west. Most of people in East accept the west doctrine blindly even if it is half truth.
Having said that these kind of research activities are important because they may be the only way that may just bring that turning point in the history of mankind that change the world forever, just like the internet has done.

I would like to address the issue of whether studying telepathy would be a worthwhile pursuit if not a large percentage of the population can do it or even would be capable of repeated demonstrated use of it.
Not a large percentage of the population can do open heart surgery nor can they even with all the training in the world play guitar as well as Jimmy Hendrix did - but that doesn't mean that the talent is not without it's uses and merits. The understanding of various psy gifts as some call them - is important to properly help those with them develop into all they can be for themselves and for society.
Imagine the difficulties if you will of trying to determine if one is dealing with schizophrenic patient or blossoming "medium". Talk about screw up if you accidently confused each for the other.
At one point people actually debated whether the world was flat or round - and people would say what does it matter - why do these weird scientific minds challenge the religious authority of the Pope to make a case for something that won't be useful to anyone really - but the truth was there was use to us all - in that the understanding of such things led to other things that helped out lives today.
Telepathy if it exist supposes that we are not just bundles of DNA that evolved out of some muck. Behind the great batter of telepathy that I assure you will be heating up fiercely in the next three years - is the question of whether man has a soul and what prayer might be.

I can easily demonstrate my telepathic abilities using GSR as a method of monitoring the receiver whilst I in another room 30 yards away transmit certain ideas or thoughts which would provoke a response in the receiver such as personal information, embarrassing events etc and then a corresponding increase in the receivers GSR appears.
In the plot http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/moose1024/DMILSGraph.jpg the tall markers are the time slots where you should activate the receiver. I had notes from the receivers girlfriend which I had not read before which were of an embarrassing nature but as her writing was difficult to read, the “punch line†did not arrive at the correct time so the response was a little delayed on the 5th and 8th activation period but was correct on the 6th one as it was right in the middle. I have been able to do this with a number of people using GSR plots.

What a shame you took the signature so seriously - maybe you could lighten up a little. That phrase was on the front of a tee-shirt my wife bought for me years ago, and has been a family catch-phrase (and running joke) ever since.
So putting that misunderstanding to one side.
Have you Googled any of the names I gave? (just wondering - oh I shouldn’t need to "wonder" if I'm psychic though should I?)

So when one does a laboratory experiment. one records data. One has reliable independent expert witnesses, and one records outcomes as best as one can. So in the book I keep referring to (The Mediumship of Jack Webber by Harry Edwards), they go to extreme lengths to explain how the photographic plates were sealed by Kodak employees, the credentials of the witnesses. etc etc etc. These days one photo means nothing, in this the era of Photoshop, but in 1939 (when these photos were taken), Photoshop was not all that common. But the sworn affidavits from members of the police force, newspaper editors (etc) that were present at these sessions should account for something.
If you’re actually interested in the facts, not just telling everyone that you’re right and everyone else (that doesn’t agree with you) is wrong, why not do what I keep suggesting. Have a look at this one book. It contains a painstaking account of how these photos were obtained. It is what you would have to call, very good scientific method (particularly for the day).
And, should you decide to actually LOOK at the “evidenceâ€, presented in this first book, then you may be interested in moving on through the rest of the list I provided.
Again I repeat, you asked for “proofâ€. In response I gave you the details of a reservoir of data just waiting for you to peruse, but you still choose to say it’s all B.S. before ACTUALLY LOOKING AT THE FACTS. Not good science!!

I say it’s highly unlikely that there is any existence after death. You’re born, you live whatever life you live & then you become un-born again, that’s it job done! I hope I’m wrong I really do. Some kind of existence after death? Wow, I’m all for it! What a great thing to be wrong about!

So I'll just have another go.
A true scientist (having formed a hypothesis regarding a particular question), goes out and gathers information on the topic, he does â€researchâ€, he does not sit and wait for the research (or “proofâ€) to come to him of it’s own volition – that is not how science works.
I offered a list of names in my reply to DC of people who PROVED beyond any hint of doubt that “supernatural†things exist, and can be demonstrated and repeated under absolutely controlled conditions. One of the names is Jack Webber.

Have a look, but not just at this one site, if you can, get hold of the book written by Harry Edwards called “The Mediumship of Jack Webberâ€. The photographs in the book are unarguable.
And, another name on my list – Arigo – ever heard of him? Get the book called “Surgeon of the Rusty Knifeâ€, also contains amazing photos.
The â€proof†you seek has been out there for many, many years, but you have to seek it. You can’t sit there and say bring me the proof. We have. The books have been there for the taking. But (as happened here), when somebody says “hey, go look at these people†the sceptic says, “bring me the proofâ€. I DID!!!! Did you Google even ONE of the names I listed? One? None?
To me the cartoon caricature of the classic Sceptic is some-one with their hands clasped firmly over their eyes saying “show me, show meâ€.

All your response focused on was YOUR perspective on what I said, how it related to you. Your perspective doesn’t really matter, neither does mine – as it never can in science. Just the facts.
I gave you a set of datum to go and look at and you chose to ignore the datum and give us your opinions. Opinions are irrelevant in true science.
You see the punch line is, that I’m a sceptic. I’m clairvoyant, I’m a Spiritual healer, but I’m a sceptic. Not a capital “S†Sceptic, like yourself, but a person who by nature will not take anything as true until proven. But with the research I’ve done, and what I have seen with my own two eyes, I know that things like clairvoyance exist, because I got off my butt and went to a lot of trouble look for the facts.

Not so - the genes for any trait exist as long as they pass from one parent organism to any offspring. So long as nothing selects and kills off anyone with a specific trait (which almost never happens in our stable, safe little world nowadays) that trait will continue (persist) indefinitely through generations, it just won't become dominant in a population because it doesn't confer a survival advantage over others.
I'd think with the masses of people packed in close quarters in jobs that either keep them thinking hard or are so mindless and repetitive that they don't require brain-power at all (therefore causes the mind to wander constantly), it's only a matter of time before some form of telepathy develops.
Might as well keep an eye out for it, eh?

Erm... well.
Anyway, Rupert Sheldrake has repeatedly, scientifically, proven the existence of a phenomenon that is usually referred to as telepathy. A great majority of scientific community has found many ways to deny his findings. Some counter-arguments have been valid, and tests have been modified accordingly. The remaining counter-arguments are schoolbook examples of spastic denial, often associated with a hysterical form of religion called Concensus Science.
When concensus tells us that some of our perceptions and experiences really don't exist at all, it's time to question that concensus. Fortunately Gödel's incompleteness theorems already deny science its absolute validity, and do that from within science, so it's only logical to welcome this kind of study of perceived, experienced phenomenon!

My mother woke (screaming) from a nightmare of my father asleep at the wheel of his truck. Simultaneously he awoke, actually asleep at the wheel; many miles away, with the sound of her screaming in his head.
I'd like to know the mechanism, but the existance of the phenomenon is beyond the point of simple speculation or derision.
Studies do not change people's minds. They exist to teach the young. Their elders die unconvinced & ignorant; making room for new beliefs.

You believe that the greater fields of science are going to remain stable for quite some time?
That is laughable from a historical perspective. After all, Einstien's relativity didn't even make it a century before Quantum physics came along. Compare that to the time that Aristotle's ideas held sway.
The major flaw in your arguement "that is drastically different from an entirely new way" is that, if telepathy exists, it ISN'T an entirely new way. It is just a way un-noticed until now.
You are correct about the obvious flaw in the studies methods, but only if the "telepathic" ability they are researching is not hereditary. It is entirely possible that telepathy does exist among certain members of the population, and that it is transmitted on genetic vectors. If so, then family studies might be the only way to ever get enough telepaths into a study to allow for the gathering of enough data.
Finally, there is currently a lack of empirical evidence for telepathy. However, one way to remain sure that there is always a lack of empirical evidence is to never conduct a proper study to see if there is any empirical evidence. Lack of proof does not refute, it merely doesn't confirm.

You have just been describing already existing means of sensing things which are just extra-sensitive for some people.
This is drastically different from an entirely new way of sensing things in a comprehendable manner from someone else nearby. Since you suggest this could be a physical phenomenon (which I say is the only thing it could be if it existed) I would think that by now we would have detected at least the precursor to whatever is carrying the information/signal from one person to another. Whether it be chemical, electro-magnetic, etc. we have a fairly good understanding of the ways in which energy is moved about the universe on the macro level and we have seen no evidence showing any macro-level information transfer beyond what we already know (sight, sound, touch, etc).
There could be something happening on the quantum level, but for us to comprehend anything like that as a concept in our minds from someone else, those quantum occurrences would have to be happening in such a great quantity to make up a complex enough thought that we would see effects at the macro level.
Often family members think of the same thing at the same time with no prior communication not because of telepathy, but rather since their minds are wired similarly from growing up in the same environment.
Yes our science is not perfect and is continually improving, but the advances are happening within the greater fields of science that we believe will remain fairly stable for quite some time. There aren't going to be many more advances as drastic as those that you described since we know so much MORE than we used to. There is just no empirical evidence for telepathy at all so far and I don't believe this will come up with anything either unless its from bias and/or explained otherwise (what I said about family members/friends and similar upbringings).
