Top 50 Things To Do To Stop Global Warming

February 27, 2007

smazsyr's picture

I like this, from GlobalWarmingFacts.info:

Global warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don't need to wait for governments to solve this problem: each one of us can bring an important help adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. It's the only reasonable way to save our planet, before it is too late.

You're right! It has varied over time. I'm guessing you didn't see Al Gore's an inconvenient truth. It tends to go up and down throughout the years. But if you look at the chart from say 500,000 years ago it is hotter now then it has ever been. In the last 10 years we have had 9 of the hottest years. 2007 being the warmest.

3 degrees is NOTHING. You're right! But say it went up another 1 degree. The process gets faster and faster. The carbon emissions we put off with cars, factories, power plants etc. build up those greenhouse gases making it get hotter and hotter over time.

Maybe the science is wrong. Maybe this is just another one of those times where it's hotter than normal. But how does it hurt the way you live life? If we keep relying on fossil fuels we will still run out. If we keep mass producing cars we will continue to see an increase in temperature.

I don't know a lot on this topic considering i'm only 12. But think, if the temperature has gone up 3 degrees in the last 10 years what will the temperature be like when my kids are 20?

Today id like to tell you about how we should stop global warming. 1. use compact fluorescent lightbulbs, 2. dont leave the tap on too long, 3. if a place is not to far away then walk, 4.if your drawing a picture use the other side.Fact: If the ozone layer turns into nothing, the earth might catch fire. Fact2: The sun is said to explode in the next 1 billion years and the debree will fall to the 4 closest planets, which includes earth.(That fact may not concern people of this day because we will simply not live to the day when the sun explodes) Thank you everyone for listenin to what i have to say about gloal warming.

global warming is very harmful.......but we don't come to know about this.
as a result of global warming the snow in polar regions is melting and one day it will come in the lower latitudes. shinking of factories will also stop but that could only be done by the help of gov...............

we should use cycles or travel by CNG buses to stop pollution.

we should not cut trees....

stop the use of polly bags....

acc. 2 me if we can follow these steps we can save our lives................

Save the polar bears !!!!!!!!

as smart as we might be, the animals and their natural way of life are even smarter. its not intelligence, its ignorance. we need the animals. an ecosystem will never survive with just one specie of animals. theres nothing wrong with appreciating the planet you live on. and giving back to it since it gives so much to us. im not a freaky environmentalist i just can't stand arrogant remarks. the tiniest forms of life are extremely important. everything that's on the planet serves a purpose why else would it even be here?

and if we dont do anything some animals might not be here in the end.. like polar bears which have to swin 50 to 60 miles or more just to get to land..so we dont have to just sit back and ledt nature take its course.WE need to do something before New York and all those cities are under water..thenn what are we going to do still..sit back and what nature takes it course?

I also think that we need to do something..if we dont do something fast then the Polar Ice Caps will melt and Polar Bears will drowned then when they are gone, they are gone, they cant come back..so we need to take action..President Bush needs to do something about this..and not just President Bush needs to take action..WE all need to take action..and some people are like Al Gore has done a lot of things..he made a video and showed it to people all around the world and because of him we are making a DIFFRENCE.

October 25, 2007 by Anonymous, 1 year 36 weeks ago
Comment id: 25671

It's not the warming but the speed in which it is happening that is the problem. Plants and animals have adapted over thousands of years to the specific climate they live in. For example; if you have ever had a reptile or fish as pets, you know that you must keep their enclosures at a specific temperature. too hot or too cold and they will die. Two degrees raise causes glacial ice that has been frozen for hundreds of thousands of years to melt. This water that was not previously in the oceans causes the sea levels to rise. Rising sea levels cause many low lying areas to be underwater. Temperature flux causes the currents in the ocean to shift. It causes storms to gather intensity and be stronger (Think about hurricane Katrina) we're looking at widespread issues here. It's not a myth, it's a "theory" that is based in many many different and widespread scientific observations. And theorys are based on gathering of evidence and facts. And gravity is a theory. This is big.

You sir, are paid by the Neocons and Big Oil

October 24, 2007 by Anonymous, 1 year 36 weeks ago
Comment id: 25658

If this isn't the most idiotic response on this issue that I have ever heard. Al Gore just won the Nobel Prize on this issue. That means respected scientists agree on this. The fires in Southern California and Hurricane Katrina are not isolated events. They are symptoms of global warming. If you knew a click about science and did the research you would find that the human race is indeed in peril. Make no mistake about it, cnn is titling their report "Planet in Peril". I disagree, it is more like "Human existence in Peril". If we do not do drastic measures now, we are talking about in a 100 years time 83% elimination of the human population as we now know it. Much of the earth uninhabitable as well. If you have kids, or are wishing to bring a kid in this world, you must care about this issue because I can not in good conscience bring a child into a world where there will be a lot of suffering. Enough with the Rethugs and the get rich right now scheme. This may all mean not that much very soon. Our existence and privilege to live on this earth is at stake.

Global Warming CAN be treated, and CURED!

Comment id: 34601

If we can speed up Global Warming, then we surely can speed it DOWN, or even STOP it! If we try hard now, then we can be more carefree about the subject later. You people who don't care are the ones who are going to be straight in the path of carma! If you care about the spread of Global Warming, and stoppingit then take these steps: Do NOT be lazy and ride everywhere you go, even if you have a Hybrid car. When brushing your teeth, put water in a cup, and swish eachtime you need to spit (dont spit too often). Use compact flourescent lightbulbs. When doing dishes, turn the water off when washing or drying (I mean seriously...be reasonable). When doing the dishes, use lukewarm water. Set up one day each week (or less) that you want to take a bath, and the rest of the time take showers. Use leave-in conditioner, and put it on after you get out of the shower and your hair is still wet. If you lean over the tub to just wash your hair, use lukewarm water, not HOT water. Re-use your towels at least once. Use hand towels to dry "sensitive" areas (don't re-use this though). Learn to knit and sew so you don't have to order blankets and such from the factories that produce them. When you go to throw away that bad homework grade, bill, receipt, or any other unwanted piece of paper, plastic, or even soda can, throw it into the recycling bin. Buy a cloth recyclable bag from Wal-Mart, JCPenny's, or maybe K-mart. Do with these options what you will, but don't leave a mean comment about them just because you don't want to do any of them.

Is global warming really our fault do we really cause our planet to warm ? How is it our fault ?
Is it because we use so much carbon dioxide and we don't have enough trees to take it in or is it the fact that we are chopping down trees which causes the tree to let out all of it's carbon dioxide .
Maybe it is our fault that global warming is happening but there is just one concern for me if global warming goes ahead will it flood the whole earth and will we die ? I am really concerened ? And if so when is global warming actually going to strike out i mean if it happens in the next couple of years will i die at 60 i really want too live too 100 im scared about global warming are you ?Care for your enviroment so we can all live in a neverending world!

I dont understand why poeple don't get the situation we are in, I am assuming most of you are addults I am however not one, I am mearly only 14. Global warming is definatly natural in our ecosystem but even if this has occured in the past, you need to look at the facts and before you make the simple coments i have read. Have you not done any reserch? Please do some now, yes it has occused in the past, and yes we have survived it but the statistics are extreamly out of place. For example one peice of imformation i recived was that if we continue on the way we have in the last 50 years, in the following 50 half of greenland is most likely to melt therefor covering all of atlantic canada and killing millions. You may not be arround then, but my generation will and i am very concerned about this (and fyi i live in atlantic canada!). This was not just some random artical posted on the internet, there was a lot of reserch involved and when i get older i would love to proceed with that recherch, but anyway back on the topic. I belive that alot of the poeple are not educated enough on this topic try going onto www.youtube.com and search presentation on global warming. Thank You for taking the time to read this, i will be checking in, in a few days to see hoe poeple have comented :)

Anonymous,

Aside from your terrible spelling, you're far ahead of most people on this topic.

I've been blogging about communicating global warming to the public, so you might want to check out my most recent comment and then track back to other entries in my blog. Sometimes people deliberately delude themselves because they can't face a reality that calls for their action.

Keep speaking out -- but learn to spell or people will question your credibility.

- Buy a fuel efficient vehicle: Include the fuel economy rating as part of the decision making process.
- Buy green power: Some utilities will give you info this; otherwise, consider a Green Tag.
- Install a programmable thermostat: It takes about 10 minutes to install and allows you to save lots of energy costs when you are not home.
- Buy less stuff: Everything we buy creates waste and uses energy both in the manufacturing process and after we use it.
