methane hydrate

I was surprised that Horwath didn't distinguish between the CO2 and the CH4 contained in Arctic soils. Recently I read elsewhere that warming so far has released more CO2 from UK soils than all attempts to cut emissions have accomplished, so it is plausible that a lot of what Horwath found could be CO2. But there is so much CH4 in the form of methane hydrate, now said to be bubbling up in the new lakes on formerly frozen Siberian soil, and it is so much worse as a greenhouse gas (31 times, I believe), that she should have made some effort to find out how much of the carbon was in the form of methane. The hydrate is also even more plentiful in oceans, which are warming too. It's scary! Especially with the news that the Gulf Stream may be slowing down.
