Yes, NOCs are important. And true NOCs don't have their husbands publish their identities in Who's Who. Nor do they submit donations to presidential campaigns under their cover company's name. They also are aware of their status as covert. None of those apply to Ms. Plame. Joe published her name in Who's Who. She submitted a donation to the Gore campaign under her front company's name. She testified in front of Congress that she wasn't a lawyer and therefore couldn't be sure of what her status was at the CIA.

So, to summarize. I agree with your opinion of covert agents and why we should protect them. I also don't think any of it applies to the self-aggrandizing publicity whore that is Valerie Plame.
