About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,
please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick. Meantime, please take a minute to read our

Let’s say a group of scientists arranged an experiment to create “life†in a lab by putting all necessary ingredients in a huge glass bowl and somehow create a self replicating (a definition of life?) molecule. Let’s say they also found a way to accelerate the process of evolution in the bowl to create more complex organism within a life time of a human. Now let’s also assume that resultant organism acquire intelligence to know the self and the surrounding. The organisms pretty much have all the intelligence of a human being except they never develop any senses or other ways to know the world outside of their bowl. One of the organism (A) mutated to develop an eye and was able to see outside the bowl and observe the scientists. Now he talks to his fellow organism (B) about the origin of their life. It goes something like this.
A- Do you know that we were actually created by some higher beings?
B- Are you a fool? Don’t you see that everything needed to create, sustain and evolve life is already available in this world (Bowl) why do we need some “outside†force to create us?
A- Believe me, it did not just happen. We are the result of an effort of a scientist Dr. Dave who created self replicating RNA in his lab. He and his group spent resources and their time (many years) to come up with this successful setup.
B- I don’t believe what I don’t see. If you give me enough time and resources I can show you in my lab that an outside force is not required creating us.
The argument between these two would go on and on with no end in sight. Interestingly both of them are making the true statements. So B has a choice to accept A’s observation if B thinks A is reliable or reject him if he thinks A is unreliable. B can never perform an experiment to reject the fact that the initial setup was done by a group of scientists.
Logically Creationism can never be dismissed by an experiment. The reason is because an experiment (event) always has an experimenter (creator of the event). The more automated (without frequent intervention of the experimenter) the experiment is the more intelligent and capable would be the experimenter. Every experiment which proves abiogenesis can not disprove creationism as this very experiment and its design was created by an intelligent being. The experiment without an experimenter is not an experiment, it would be an observation. This observation of evolution (monkey to human) can not be made as we haven’t built a time machine yet.
