About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,

The so-called "rules of the universe", may reside in the 'organ' from which they are perceived and characterized. Universal rules must apply and accord with certain, or theoretically all structures, forces, systems, fields, and so on. Our planet resides in the known universe, therefore brain structure and function must be subject to, at the very least, some of the rules and principles of the universe, as such, paralleling in some real ways, brain structure and function consistent with the "rules of the universe".
The actual goal of acquiring knowledge is to find; not only how we fit into the universe, but to discover how we represent the universe. This need to explore such questions arise from an inborn fascination with life, and all that entails. As well as, the prepared mind; not stifled by social convention and norms, or a poor or restricted education. At the same time, the need to explore topics, such as the, "rules of the universe", is not part of everyone's mind-set, understanding, or intuitive capacity.
I am suggesting that the brain, and it's structure and function; formed by "certain" universal rules and principles, aspires and seeks, intuitively, to establish it's relationship with that which made life possible, in the first place.
This need, to establish a relationship, resulting from an intuitive need, with that which made life possible, is the self-same goal of most religions or spiritual practices. Seeking the "rules of the universe", in scientific terms, is driven by the same intuitive summons to connect with and understand, no only our place in the universe, but how we represent the universe.
In plain language, "the rules of the universe", operate in the human brain. Further, the only reason we can comprehend "the rules of the universe", is because they are active in brain structure and function; at some level. Understanding must correspond with existing knowledge. Knowledge lies within brain structure and function. No correspondence, no connection, and no knowledge.
That is not to say that our present knowledge of universal rules are uniformly correct. An "incorrect" rule, as applied, may have valid applications in other areas of cosmology.
I have not, nor can I exhaust, all the questions and concerns as to how the human brain seek to establish and understanding the relationship with the universal rules and principles that shaped it and, as I argue, explain the intuitive ability to comprehend "the rules of the universe"; that correspond to it's structure and function. The oneness, that many religions and spiritual practices aspire to, inform this discussion. Why, because oneness potentially integrates all, seemingly disparate elements, resulting in a unified whole; a universal "rule". The "rules of the universe", would seem arbitrary, or, at least, conditional, if not governed by a primary rule or principle of oneness; a uniform and unifying law, theorem, or axiom, within which all of the valid rules operate.
