Unfortunately, it's studies like these that are used by far right conservative groups as "proof" that action needs to be taken. While I also feel this is an area that needs further study, I have to seriously wonder as to the political motivation behind such "research". Why would you NOT do a more complete survey with much better control groups? Surely any statistical scientist worth even the slightest attention would have seen the bias issues mentioned. Why would you ignore that unless you had another agenda?
