About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,
please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick. Meantime, please take a minute to read our

A great development. Now to optimize the conversion process to create useable fuel. While there's much increasing attention in these fields, it's interesting to note that the research efforts have been active for well over a decade.
I try to monitor research developments in these areas -- when I can make time to do so. There are several Department of Energy search engines created specifically for searching detailed research reports. Developed by DOE's Office of Scientific & Technical Information (www.osti.gov), these search methods go deep into the web where Google cannot. For example, after seeing this article, I used OSTI's Science Accelerator (http://www.scienceaccelerator.gov/) to see what else is new. Search results include a June 2008 study published by Wang, et al., that looks at Miscanthus' high productivity in cold climates. And, OSTI's improving search techniques for research material from all over the world with its World Wide Science portal.
So, now we know Miscanthus grows in marginal soils, requires planting only once, and does well in cold climates...
