This research provides a new understanding of how reservatrol on the molecular level can kill cancer cells but protect healthy cells. The red wine books you link to are for the layperson and have none of the (new) detail provided by this study.

At some point I need to add a blog post about some of the research we did at The Salk Institute that was just published recently. We found a somewhat similar effect for fisetin, the main neuroprotective flavonoid in strawberries. It has the potential to kill cancer cells while protecting healthy cells as well.
