Possible explanation of light skull and vertebrae bones

Who says this animal had to chew or bite? The teeth and jaw are perfect for harvesting seeds from grass (or grass-like plants). All it had to do was close its mouth on a patch of grass and pull gently: all of the seeds would be sheared off quite easily, literally popping right down its throat. It could even have just walked along, pulling its head from the forward motion of its body.
