About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,
please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick. Meantime, please take a minute to read our

You are forgetting one thing. Many vegetarians are dieting for health, yet a significant portion cited on this thread are disregarding protein in their diets. Most of the (..hyperbole..) eating people are NOT after diet. The few of us who are maintain a balanced diet. Vegetarians are just as susceptible to diabetes and cancer as everybody else. More so if they consume anything with HFCS and products containing trans fat (specifically, margarine before everything became trans fat free). Again, most vegetarians do so for the diet, so they stay away.
The only difference is meat and dairy, which do NOT lead to any of the symptoms you described when used in a properly balanced diet. Fats give you energy, protein restores muscle, meat comes with many benefits such as B vitamins. There's nothing wrong with a meat free diet if it is done right, but an omnivorous diet is just as valid.
