About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,
please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick. Meantime, please take a minute to read our

I'm having a difficult time reading these comments because they seem so very heartless.
$1.1 billion total is such a minuscule amount to the US. $11 dollars per household. And you're outraged?
What about all the political corruption and schemes that funnel taxpayers' money into the pockets of the rich? You should be happy that you are at least helping disadvantaged people to just LIVE.
Do you ever contribute to charities? $11 dollars ANNUALLY to a charity (and maybe, just maybe, it has grown to a whopping $12 now from the time of the study -- the horrors!) is nothing. It is the price of a meal at McDonald's. Or two lattes at Starbucks. You probably wouldn't hesitate to spend it on yourself for something completely non-life-sustaining.
And yet you're outraged that it was instead spent to help a sick child who's only difference from you is that they were born into a disadvantaged society.
I am truly sad that you feel that way.
