About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,

I was pacing around a pharmacy looking for a miracle cure to my cold sore when a Pharmacist told me I wouldn't find anything that would really work, but that I should take Lysine everyday to keep from getting an outbreak in the future. I wish I knew that man's name because he is one of my Heroes! The cold sores I've gotten since I was about 12 were absolutely enormous. Not something that could be hidden at all. Awful.
Ever since learning what contributes to an outbreak I've had tremendous success in suppressing outbreaks. 10 years, no outbreaks!!!
Lysine is taken to balance out your Lysine/Arginine balance. Too much arginine in your system and an outbreak is likely. Google a list of Arginine rich foods and avoid them if you can. A short list is; coffee, chocolate, legumes, peanut butter. All things I love by the way.
Other triggers for cold sores; sunburn, this is HUGE always use lip balm with sunscreen, ALWAYS. Friction; for example, drying your face with a rough towel and dragging the towel over your lips too hard, I had this trigger an outbreak once almost immediately.
Stress. Gotta regulate the stress people. I know how hard that is.
Take the Lysine, Sunscreen on the lips, limit arginine rich foods!!! Good luck, this is an awful curse.
