About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,
please register and join others like you in an ongoing, vibrant dialog about what makes the world tick. Meantime, please take a minute to read our

It is far more profitable for pharmaceutical companies to "treat" a disease than to "cure" it. As long as the disease doesn't kill you they will never attempt to cure it. Valtrex is a cash cow. A cure would eliminate a customer and thus no repeat business. Unfortunately, they only care about the bottom line. Heck, even HIV could probably be cured by this method but since it doesn't kill quickly they make more off of treatments than a cure. I don't think anything has been "cured" in a long time. Pharmaceutical companies just aren't in that business.
