About us
Science Blog was started in August 2002. It lives, breathes and eats press releases from research organizations around the globe. Most of what you read here are press releases from the outfits named in the stories themselves. Got a news story you think belongs here?
Let's talk.
The other half of the equation is
blog posts from readers like you. So if you have an interest in science,

Hi,
My name is Jeff and I have recently come up with some ideas surrounding solar panels and possible solutions to fix the issue of dust and other contaminants that settle on the panel reducing it’s efficiency greatly! Unlike here on earth, you cannot simply send someone to clean the panel, you are at the mercy of the surrounding elements and where the survival of rovers on mars and possibly other worlds in the near future solar is king! we need to have clean panels, but as shown on the current rovers on mars, it is a massive task keeping the rovers panels generating enough power, due to dust and dirt settling on them and weeks even many months sometimes has been lost due to this problem. My idea should eliminate the problem almost completely and allow for a much greater percentage of the maximum efficiency of the panel. In these hi maintenance conditions where a clean solar source means a much longer mission life and far greater power level throughout the mission, making it possible to do more in the same time. What I have come up with is lightweight enough to be viable to ad to a rover and simple enough to have longevity! This could be a very useful technology here on earth as well, for keeping cleaning maintenance low on remote or hard to get to solar panels like ones commonly used in remote telecommunication and scientific sensor stations! If anyone is interested in more information about my idea or wants to help or even put me in contact with some who would be interested in this technology please email me at glimpse79@gmail.com
