As a former engineer and current PhD student in economics, I am absolutely fascinated by the potential applications of this technology! I love the idea of the potential impact this technology could bring for interfacing with the nervous system to help those unable to move, communicate or sense. It sounds like it also holds strong promise for lowering the development costs and time for new medicines, which should speed up innovation in medical technology.

I quote parts of this post and link back to it on my blog, adding a few thoughts of my own. You can see it here: http://thinkingonthemargin.blogspot.com/2006/03/nearer-my-borg-to-thee.html
