Creating Water Out Of Thin Air

Yep, you read the title correctly. The folks over at Element Four have created a home appliance called the WaterMill, which will create drinking water from air.

The system draws in moist, outside air through an air filter. The moist air passes over a cooling element, condensing the moist air into water droplets. This water is then collected, passed through a specialized carbon filter and is then exposed to an ultraviolet sterilizer, eliminating bacteria.

Originally envisioned as an antidote to the freshwater crisis, the unit costs $1,299.

Is this a joke? How's this different then a dehumidifier with filter thrown in? And at $1,299 it cost like 7 times what I paid for mine (yes, I bought a top of the line unit).

There is no difference in your description, but if I remember the original release, it uses less electricity overall.

But yeah - efficient dehumidifier + filter + irradiating treament = brand new device! (or not)
