RADIATION INDUCED BRAIN CANCERS LINKED TO CELL PHONES

Cell phones can and do cause cancer. The problem is the radiation emitted from the cell phone and close proximity with the human body. Recent Senate Hearings on cell phones and the link to radiation induced brain cancers, shed light on the flaws in cell phone design. By not blocking radiation from entering the human body the designed is flawed and should be changed immediately. All old style cell phones should be recalled and replaced with new designed cell phones with built in radiation shielding.

The risk of developing brain tumors and cancers is higher in children and teens than adults. The brain structure is softer in children and teens which allow almost double the penetration of radiation an adult would experience. This will lead to 4 or more times cancers in children and teens. In the Senate Hearings they discussed putting a age limit on cell phones like the one now on cigarettes, it's that bad.

What you can do now to reduce your risk is to invest in radiation shielding devices for your cell phones. This is only a intermittent solution till new research and designs are implemented. You can reduce your time on cell phones and avoid contact with your body. It seems if you wear one on your hip unshielded, you risk prostate or ovarian cancer. Again it's a radiation emitting device in contact with your body.

Young children should not be allowed to play with cell phones. Shielding and limiting the use, or time on them should be discussed between a responsible adult and child. Children's risks are much greater of getting cancer with cell phones. Restricting the use for children until shielded phones are produced is the safest.

Radiation can and does cause cancer. It effects us in our technology and immediate universe. NASA has developed radiation shielding for space exploration. The military has developed radiation shielding systems for it's nuclear submarines and operations. Nuclear power plants operate with radiation shielding systems. Developing radiation shielding for cell phones should be very simple, adding very little cost to the cell phones.

All new tech devices that emit radiation should be tested, and radiation shielding should be in the design before being released to the public. Cell phones are not going away, and technology will continue forwards. We need to learn and implement radiation shielding design changes, for the safety of the human species. We live in a great age, a little common sense would go a long way to insuring our safety.

I will stand by my statements that unshielded cell phones can cause cancer. Time will tell that I am right on the issue.
In our age of technology unknown and known effects of radiation are increasing our cancer rates. Ignorance is no excuse for not protecting ourselves and others from these devastating diseases.

Overstating and mis-stating the case

Mis-statement: This article does not distinguish between ionizing radiation, such as cosmic rays, x-rays and that produced by nuclear decay, and non-ionizing radiation from microwave and other longer-than-UV-wavelength electromagnetic radiation (including visible light).

The fact is that if microwave radiation causes brain cancer, it would not be by ionization but by a different biochemical process, perhaps the disruption of normal electrochemical activity in the brain.

Even advocates of taking the precautions stated here, such as Ronald Herberman of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, do so on the "precautionary principal," meaning that there is some suggestive evidence but no clear correlations yet between cell-phone use and brain cancers.

Let me be clear: I am not saying that the precautions do not make sense. But I am always concerned when articles like this overstate the case, because contradictory articles also appear and the general public begins to mistrust science.

For a book that states the evidence realistically and, in fact, advocates the precautionary recommendations of Herberman while noting the limits of the evidence, I recommend AntiCancer by David Servan-Schreiber.

Long-term Non-Ionizing Equals Short-term Ionizing

There is a lot of misinformation and disinformation out there -- and for good reason: this is a trillion-dollar-a-year in-profits industry. Hence, "Doubt is Their Product." It was established over a decade ago by Dr. Henry Lai, PhD. (Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory at the University of Washington) that even microwave radiation from cell phones breaks DNA (both single strand and double strand) and micronuclei (i.e. fragmented DNA) was found leaking from cells. This is the information that the cell phone industry wanted to suppress and did not want Dr. George Carlo -- the epidemiologist who ran the 28 million dollar research program for the wireless industry between 1993 and 1999 -- to go public with. They even apparently offered him a million dollars a year to keep his mouth shut and toe the industry line! He didn't (keep his mouth shut) and did go public with the information on his own -- and naturally his relationship was then severed and his house was mysterously burnt down. The cell phone industry then tried to hire other researchers to discredit Dr. Henry Lai's findings and phone calls were also apparently made to the president of his university in an attempt to get him fired.

Even more recently, the REFLEX studies done throughout a number of European countries prove without a doubt that microwave radiation does indeed break DNA (and this is most likely through the creation of free radicals [which is also how ionizing radiation has its negative effects btw]). They have found that one minute on a cell phone is equivalent to one X-Ray! Hence, one hour is equivalent to 60 X-rays; ten hours to 600 X-rays; and 100 hours equivalent to 6000 X-rays. Now, would you X-ray your head 6000 times?
